What are the Havening Techniques®?

  • review rating 5  James is an amazing therapist - I have so much to thank this guy for! I was struggling with PTSD & burnout and was pretty much ready to give up on life when I found James. He helped me to find a way forwards where 3 other counsellors had failed. James introduced me to Havening which was a complete game-changer for me. He helped me to strip out the emotional content from a traumatic experience that had been haunting me for years. His therapies really are fast-acting and I noticed they started to help straight away. I was a nervous wreck when I arrived for my 1st appointment, but James quickly made me feel at ease and I left feeling wonderfully calm and relaxed. James is an experienced & very knowledgeable therapist. He has a really lovely kind, calm manner about him. He was patient, understanding & encouraging when we were working through some of the tougher stuff and I always felt safe and supported whilst working with him. James is really passionate about giving people meaningful help, fast. I would definitely recommend James to anyone. He changed my life for the better and he can help you get your life back on track too.

  • review rating 5  Hi I’m Josie a parenting coach. Recently I was on a very packed bus travelling from the airport terminal to my flight, which we were then required to wait on. I’ve never been one to like small tight spaces but on this occasion it was different. I became paralysed with fear, hyperventilating, anxiety like I have never experienced and complete lack of control. It is by far the most frightened I’ve very felt. The anxiety lasted for hours and even my darling husband couldn’t calm me down. When I got home the next day I still didn’t feel myself the worry was still sat in my chest. I decided I had to see James to see if his magic truly worked, as I was flying again the weekend just gone alone with three children from Florida. I couldn’t possible have the same episode while with my kids. There was also no time for talking therapies I needed fast results. I went to see James, open to it but genuinely questioning what effect he could have in an hour. Well, I flew back 3 days ago from Florida with my three children and was in a tight bus in the same situation. I kept asking myself, “Is this going to work, I need this to work!” Even winding myself up about it before the doors had even closed i didn’t get a bit of worry, no anxiety, nothing! I wasn’t even trying it just happened. Phenomenal- absolutely mind blown! James is amazing he makes you feel at ease immediately and you feel he genuinely cares! He comes highly highly recommended. Those hands of his hold true magic!

The Havening Techniques® are a revolutionary new way of healing the mind. Havening belongs to a larger group of methods called Psycho-sensory therapies. Therefore these therapies work by using applied touch.

 

In a randomised trial of 5000 patients. Psycho-sensory therapy was more effective in treating common mental health problems than Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (C.B.T) or medication. So if you want to use something new that works fast it’s definitely the type of therapy to use.

 

The Havening Techniques can be used by yourself (Self Havening) or by a registered practitioner (Facilitated Havening). Hence both of these methods will remove the effects of traumatic memories from the mind.

 

Self Havening is very effective at clearing milder issues. Above all I would strongly recommend seeing a registered Havening Techniques practitioner for any larger issues of anxiety or trauma. So if you’re experiencing anxiety or depression i’d like to help you. 

 

Havening for anxiety

 

Havening is a fantastic therapy for removing anxiety and therefore works very well for many types. As an example here are a few it works well for.

G.A.D (Generalised anxiety disorder).

Social anxiety (being anxious in groups of people).

Traumatic memories  (a result of traumatic experiences)

limiting behaviours  (having anxiety hold you back from doing what you want to do).

 

Havening has a huge advantage over many therapies as it’s so versatile. Consequently Havening can be used to help with a wide range of issues from Anxiety to P.T.S.D. So many different issues can be helped using Havening effectively.

 

Havening also has the benefit of incredible speed. So my average client will see me for just two sessions and many phobias can be erased in just one session! As a result in a couple of sessions you could be free of those old problems.

 

How well Does Havening work?

 

Havening works amazingly well and is very fast at clearing problems  even if they have been around for decades. As a result even long standing  problems can be removed. I have been using this therapy for a number of years now, and I am still amazed at what it can do.

 

Using the Havening Techniques I have helped many clients when other therapies have failed in the past. Even Problems as diverse as emotional eating to the Yips in sports, and chronic anxiety have all been resolved. To sum it up it, Havening works incredibly well and incredibly fast.

 

Havening Trials

 

Havening has been put through trials at King’s college London. for the reason to test it’s effectiveness. In these trials the Havening was tested to see if it could help people with depression, anxiety and impaired functioning.

 

Participants where given just one session of Havening therapy. They were later asked how they felt one week later and also two months later. By asking at these times we could see if the effectiveness of the treatment wears off.

 

The single session of Havening was found to be successful. They created the desired results for clients with depression and anxiety who beforehand had felt impaired. Participants reported an improvement on all mental health measures, that were sustained after two months.

 

How does Havening therapy work ?

 

Havening uses Havening touch with an applied stroking of the arms, hands or face. As a result an electro-chemical reaction within the brain and allows us to change the way we feel about past events. This takes place at the part of the brain where memories are stored.

 

First the Havening touch is applied and the upsetting memory or feeling that is creating is recalled.

 

This is when the process starts to deactivate the old behaviour by de-linking the emotion from the memory. So this means that the very first part of chain reaction causing the anxiety is no longer able to work.

 

It’s like taking away the first domino in a long line of dominoes therefore the chain reaction can’t start anymore. The anxious response or unhelpful behaviour is gone! 

The Havening Technique is great at clearing past traumatic events, it can also be used to remove negative emotional states. Therefore it can do a whole lot more than other therapies.

 

If you find yourself being stuck in sadness, depression, stress, low self esteem or grief we can change that too.

 

The great thing about working with Havening this way is that the you don’t need to know the origin of these feelings.

 

The brain is already connected to the source of the upset. We are able to get to work straight away at clearing them without spending hours looking for a root cause.

 

We can replace the old unhelpful feelings with how you would like to feel instead.

Dr Ronald Ruden, the co creator of Havening along with his brother Dr Steven Ruden, says:

 

“When an event or experience is perceived as traumatic or very stressful, it becomes immutably encoded, often with life altering consequences.

 

However recent research in the field of neuroscience has shown us how it’s possible to modify this encoding.

 

we are all aware that sensory encoding changes our thought behaviour (think Mozart, chicken soup,or hugging your child) but for the most part these changes are transient. Is it possible to use sensory input to create permanent change?”

 

What does Havening do ?

 

The Havening technique is a method, which is designed to change the brain, to de-traumatize the memory, and permanently remove its negative effects from both our psyche and our body.
